Great mountain and beach walks! Access to a mountain trail just 200 metres down the road. Walk to popular Fish Hoek beach, featuring: a kids playground, restaurant, bistro, warm water and safe bathing (recently voted one of the safest beaches in the world).
Both the world-renowned Boulder's Beach Penguin Colony and Cape Point Nature Reserve are located nearby, as is the Constantia Wine Route (all three within 15km).
It's a 5 minute walk down to the high street which features a wide variety of shops (butcher, baker, news agent, 7 Eleven, pharmacy, etc.) as well as restaurants, the local pub, hair dressing salon, etc.
Whale-watching is a favourite pastime in the False Bay area from early August through to mid-November each year. Telescopes are supplied for whale-viewing from the comfort of your balcony, or you can take a stroll along the coastline for more intimate views of these fascinating, gigantic mammals frolicking in the sunshine.
A train station is located near the beach and offers convenient half-hourly train trips. Taking the train to Cape Town or Simons Town is well worth consideration as the track hugs the coastline around False Bay for much of the way.
Kalk Bay, a quaint fishing village and harbour is just around the corner where bartering with the colourful local fishermen for the catch of the day is a popular local custom. The village has a bohemian atmosphere and a morning spent exploring the various curio shops, antique dealers, restaurants, coffee shops and art dealers is a rewarding experience.
Simon's Town (historic head quarter's of the South African Navy) is a similar distance away and offers a naval museum, interesting toy museum, dockside restaurants, trips to Seal Island and penguin watching at Boulders Beach.
Central Cape Town, Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront are all within a radius of 35 minutes by road. |
